The cultural artifact I chose is Instagram. This app was actually more popular back when I was a freshman and sophomore in high school so many of my peers used it as a form of interaction. At the time it was a fun and fresh app but my perception of that changed one day my early sophomore year. There was an exposing page that had started up and when I got the notification that they wanted to follow me I thought nothing of it until I saw they had tagged me in one of their post. Someone had taken time out of their day to take a picture of me at school and post it saying I have no ass. To say the least I was very hurt because I knew I was thin and basically had no body shape and that just pushed the notion that I didn’t have a womanly enough body even at such a young age. I spent the rest of my high school years wearing shirts that covered that area or big jackets in an attempt to feel better so that no one can comment on it again. Looking back however I thank whoever posted that pict...

Prompt 1:   I chose the Music video for Mamacita by Travis Scott for this blog. The actual song itself doesn’t start till about 1:27 and it involves the main artist Travis along with two other artists in the Video and the other cast in the video involve women. The reason I chose this video was because it fit into the male gaze and how they use women and their bodies as props. Prompt 2: Authorship- Rap culture created this text. It’s typical for them to use half naked women in music videos and this has been happening for years it is now seen as normal. Consumers also created this video considering the music video itself has 45 million views, they buy into it and it gives artist like Travis Scott the idea that this is what his audience likes to see. The typical answer for who created the message of course would be the artist themselves, they had a choice to not add half naked women and have them dancing in the background yet they went against it. Format- The women in th...

Prompt 1: The cultural artifact i chose to represent gender is "If I were a boy" by Beyonce. The music video shows us what happens when men and women switch roles. It depicts how a man would feel if his partner did what he would be doing behind her back. Then at the end of the video they switch back to their original roles. Prompt 2: The music video is saying that men tend to be the one who aren’t loyal in a relationship, they tend to push boundaries with fidelity meanwhile the women are the ones who are the most dedicated to the relationship. It reinforces that women are seen as crazy in a relationship, there is one part of the video in specific that demonstrates this. The part after BeyoncĂ© is seen at the club with another man and is confronted, her response is “Why you tripping it’s not like I’m sleeping with him”. It makes it seem like the assumptions her partner was making were ridiculous. The video and the song seem to go more along the lines of traditiona...
